These taster sessions are a chance to quickly assess any acute musculoskeletal problems experienced in the last couple of weeks (not long term or chronic problems). Anna and James offer mini-assessments, advice and tips rather than in-depth treatments.

10.00 – 17.00 Sitting With It: BA Fine Art Degree Show 2022 – on campus – just turn up

Independently created by final year BA Fine Art students, Sitting With It celebrates the work of 62 graduating artists, with all mediums of contemporary art practice. Located in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies.

12.00 – 14.00 Labyrinth walking – on campus on the grass outside Edward Boyle library. Just turn up – fine weather only. If it’s raining, contact chaplaincy@leeds.ac.uk.

Labyrinth walking is an ancient spiritual practice for individual prayer, contemplation or centring. It is a slow, intentional walk along a set path, during which people focus their attention on a spiritual question, prayer or simply the present moment. Take a few moments to pause, connect and reflect by walking a labyrinth this week. 

13.05 – 13.45 Guided art trail walk – on campus – booking required

Join expert guide Laura Wilson as she explores an accessible route around some of the many campus artworks. Learn about the back story and artists of the installations at a gentle pace. 

13.15 – 13.45 Chapel service for healing – on campus at the Chaplaincy – just turn up

A 30-minute programme of hymns, Bible reading and prayers for healing. No need to talk about ailments, but you can come forward for anointing with oil for healing in the name of Jesus. Led by Baptist Chaplain, Laurence Pusey. 

13.25 – 14.10 Legs, bums and tums – on campus – booking required

A 45-minute fun session focusing on the three most popular areas for toning up: the legs, glutes and abs.

Rosa explains: “I wanted to show the quiet impact of the cleaning team, working in every building doing essential work. Tuesday 14 June

All day – Menopause day – on campus and online – booking required

We’re delighted to present a whole day dedicated to menopause support at the University of Leeds. There’ll be two ‘menopause for thought’ cafés, lightning talks, a workshop, yoga for menopause and a discussion panel/Q&A (booking required). The day splits into a morning and afternoon session on campus, with the discussion panel also accessible online.

Experts from the country’s largest nature conservation charity, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will be at the stall in the precinct opposite the Refectory steps.

A fun, high-energy workout focused on cardio fitness, stamina and agility to leave you feeling exhilarated and de-stressed. There’s nothing like a good workout to lower your stress levels.

Find out what the Sustainability Service is doing to make our University more sustainable by dropping in to meet the team in the precinct opposite the Refectory steps. Ask us anything about biodiversity on campus, the circular economy, the University’s plans to deliver net zero emissions and sustainable travel, as well as learning about volunteering opportunities. Bring along your bike and our experienced Bike Hub mechanic will give it a ‘Dr Bike’ check to make sure it’s in top shape for summer.

Get together with other experienced climbers from across the University and enjoy the feeling of comradeship as you practise your skills with plenty of technical challenges.

Join Greg for a refreshing wellbeing walk from main campus to nearby Woodhouse Ridge and enjoy some gentle exercise in the great outdoors.

12.30 – 15.30 Pen to paper: get creative – online and on campus – just turn up

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced writer, use your time to hone your creative writing skills, chat with fellow writers or simply indulge your creativity in a calm, inspiring atmosphere. 12:30 – 13:30 Creative bookbinding with May Ackroyd – on campus – booking required

Spend an hour relaxing and creating two books in the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery, Parkinson Building. Learn a new skill and make something you can use. We will create a basic notebook using a needle, thread and paper, and create an accordion book using paper and card and glue. All materials provided.

14.00 – 15.00 – Bouldering for all abilities – on campus – booking required

Bouldering is a great combination of fun problem solving and physical strength and agility, with an added sense of accomplishment as you overcome the obstacles. Hosted by Get Out Get Active, this is a great workout for mind and body. 

15.00 – 16.30 Beginners climbing taster – on campus – booking required

Move on up with Get Out Get Active and the Edge climbing team, develop your physical strength and agility and feel elated.

Body Jam with Pablo is fun, loud and designed to help perk up your cardio health with a vibrant mix of dance and aerobics. Featuring a host of moves blended with the latest sounds of hip hop, funk, and Latin American music, this is a real cardio workout.

Friday 17 June

10.00 – 12.00 Mindful movement and music – on campus – booking required

You’ll be introduced to the mindful movement and gentle exercise of Qigong and have the chance to make music together, including writing song lyrics in a group and putting them to music. Facilitated by a Qigong instructor (member of the Tai Chi and Qigong Union for Great Britain) and two experienced musicians, this session will give you space to move, express yourself and have fun. No prior experience needed. Light refreshments will be available.

Use your time to hone your sketching skills, chat with fellow art appreciators or simply indulge your creativity in a calm, inspiring atmosphere at the Gallery Sketch Club.
